Crystallization is a method of creating high-gloss finish on calcium bearing stone floors, such as marble, limestone, and travertine.
It creates a microfilm on the surface brought about by the combination of friction and chemical reaction. The compound formed protects the surface, making it resistant to stains while preserving both color and luster.
Considering its long-term advantages, Crystallization is a cost-effective process compared to using wax on floor surfaces. The latter not only requires frequent buffing and reapplication, but it can also build up, causing an unnatural, plastic appearance. Moreover, poor quality coatings will yellow and can cause permanent staining to some stone types.
Do note, however, that Crystallization must only be performed by trained craftsmen who are familiar with the techniques of this process. Excessive moisture in the stone can hamper the crystallization reaction and cause problems.
